Touring in Warsaw

During WWII, the Germans decided that Warsaw would "disappear from the surface of the earth" after the Polish Uprising.  They killed people, sent them to concentration camps and gas chambers, looted the city, burned and bombed the buildings and had destroyed 90% of the buildings by 1945.  Instructions to the German soldiers were that nothing was to be left of the city.  Any survivors lived in ruins and were hunted like rats.

The city that we see as we drive around today has been built from the 1950s through 1970s based upon old photos. The Old City part of Warsaw that we toured looked like it did before WWII but the churches were not 500 years old, they were 50. Here are some photos I took and the city looks like many old European cities with old cathedrals and buildings.

On Sarurday we took a tour of Warsaw. These pictures are of the Old Town Market Square. The Old Town dates from the 1300s and had a castle and big walls for protection.
