About 2 blocks in front of my hotel, the Sokos Ilves, is Hameenkatu Street. This is the main street in Tampere and seems to be the place to go at all hours of the day or night. It is near the railway station which we take from Helsinki, the bus station, hotels, pubs, cafes, shopping and it crosses the Tammererkoski River and rapids that Tampere was built along. The street is an old cobblestone street and is filled with bikes, people out for a walk, buses, parks, churches, theaters. It is the place to be seen in Tampere.
